“Energy Efficiency in European Ports” on the Sustainability – Open Access Journal

On September 2019, a journal paper authored by CERTH/HIT and the Department of Maritime Studies, University of Piraeus was accepted and published on the Sustainability – Open Access Journal

Sustainability (ISSN 2071-1050; CODEN: SUSTDE) is an international, cross-disciplinary, scholarly, peer-reviewed and open access journal of environmental, cultural, economic, and social sustainability of human beings. In particular the article belongs to the Special Issue Green Maritime Transport, that intends to look into theoretical models, optimization problems, and applications in all subsectors of maritime transport.

10 papers were published as part of this special issue and among them you can find relevant research that was carried out within the context of the ‘SUPAIR—Sustainable Ports in the Adriatic—Ionian Region’ research project.

Energy Efficiency in European Ports: State-Of-Practice and Insights on the Way Forward” is the title the SUPAIR related journal paper authored by Eleftherios Sdoukopoulos, Maria Boile, Alkiviadis Tromaras, and Nikolaos Anastasiadis.

The paper provides a pragmatic and comprehensive overview of the main policies, technologies and practices that European ports have adopted to-date for enhancing their energy efficiency. It gathers actual data and port experiences from many different sources in a first attempt to better facilitate knowledge and experience-sharing activities, that will support ports in collectively moving towards a zero-emission and climate-neutral future.
